Islami Bank Launches Two-Week Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign
Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has launched a two-week cybersecurity awareness campaign in observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The campaign aims to educate both employees and customers about emerging cyber threats and promote basic digital literacy to help them stay protected.
The program was inaugurated on Monday, October 21, at the bank's headquarters in Dilkusha, Motijheel, by the bank's Managing Director, Muhammad Munirul Moula. The event was attended by Additional Managing Directors Md. Omar Faruk Khan, Md. Altaf Hossain, and Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mazumder. Executive Vice President Mohammad Rezaul Karim presided over the event, with Senior Vice President S. M. Mizanur Rahman delivering the welcome address. Senior executives from the bank’s various departments, as well as heads of zones and branches, joined the event both in person and virtually.
In his speech, Managing Director Muhammad Munirul Moula emphasized the critical importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world. He urged all units of the bank to play an active role in strengthening cybersecurity awareness and implementing robust security measures to protect customer data. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding passwords, OTPs (one-time passwords), emails, and web browsing activities to mitigate risks.
Moula also stressed that the bank never asks customers for sensitive information like OTPs or passwords over the phone. He warned against fraudulent schemes where scammers use tactics such as lottery promises to obtain OTPs and access customer accounts. He called on employees to remain vigilant and work towards educating customers about such scams to prevent financial loss.
The event was part of a broader initiative to reinforce the bank’s commitment to cybersecurity and protect its customers from cyber threats.
